I’m guilty guys! I gave into the temptation of social media and bought the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.
I want to share an honest review with you guys. Of course, what I have to say isn’t a fact but simply my experience. I hope this review brings some clarity if you’re on the fence about buying this product. So, let’s get to it!
What is Laneige?
Laneige is a South Korean cosmetics brand established in 1994. It offers a range of skin care and beauty products that aim to hydrate and nourish the skin using innovative formulas and technology.
Laneige’s products are formulated with a focus on the concept of “Water Science,” which emphasizes the importance of hydration in maintaining healthy skin.
This brand has gained popularity in Korea and internationally for its focus on hydration and its commitment to using high-quality ingredients. However, like all cosmetic brands, the effectiveness of Laneige’s products can vary from person to person and some people may not find the products to be suitable for their skin.
What is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask?
The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is a lip treatment product that is designed to hydrate and nourish the lips overnight. It is a leave-on formula that is supposed to form a protective barrier on the lips to lock in moisture and prevent water loss.
What’s inside?
Some of the key ingredients include:
- Hyaluronic Acid: This ingredient helps to retain moisture and plump up the lips.
- Vitamin C and antioxidants: These ingredients help to protect the skin against damage from free radicals and promote a more youthful-looking complexion.
- Minerals: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is formulated with a blend of minerals, including sodium, potassium, and calcium, which help to replenish and revitalize the lips.
- Berry Mix Complex: This proprietary blend of berries, including raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, and blueberry, provides a burst of antioxidants and nutrients to the lips.

Cons of the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
Lets begin with the cons so we can get this negative energy outta the way!
High price point
The 20g Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask can vary in price depending on which site you buy it from but currently sells for 24 USD on Laneige.com, which is about R429,60.
We all seem to live in accordance with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. So, to some people this product is not worth the price because they could use the money on more important things. This doesn’t only apply to the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask but any luxury product on the market.
However, even if you do have extra money to spend, you can always try your best to make sure what you spend on is actually worth it. R429,60 is definitely a high price to pay, but given the results it can bring you may consider it to be worth your money.
The sticky texture
I appreciate how thick and moisturising it feels on my lips but the one thing that makes me reluctant to use it is the sticky feeling it has on my lips.
As the name indicates it is meant to be an overnight sleeping mask. However, even drinking water from a bottle or turning over in your sleep can cause it to be smudged off.
On a separate note, I did expect more from the berry scent given the TikTok reactions.
Pros of the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
The softening effect
I haven’t used it consistently every night, but from the times I have I can confirm that you wake up with visibly moisturised and softer lips.
Heals chapped lips
My lips always enter a phase of super dryness when the seasons change and last year was no different. I usually struggle for weeks, constantly having to reapply lip ice. This time around I decided to just use the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask during the day as my “chapstick”. When it was on I had to hold back on the snacks (unfortunately), but it truly helped to heal my dry lips within a week or two.
So, Worth the Hype or Overrated?
Overall, the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is designed to be a highly effective solution for anyone dealing with dry, chapped, or lackluster lips. Whether you have naturally dry skin or are exposed to harsh environmental elements, this lip mask can help you achieve a more hydrated and youthful pout.
It delivers what it promises but that comes with a hefty price. If used once a week it can last for a couple of months but if you want stronger results I would advise you use it every night.
If you choose not to buy it, I don’t believe you’ll be missing out on anything revolutionary. More affordable products like Vaseline lip balm or Burt’s Bees can do a good job at healing your lips too.
If you’d like to experience what everyone is taking about then that’s great too. Sometimes the best reviewer is yourself!
Or maybe this is your self-care treat for the week… I 100% support that.
On a personal note, I don’t regret buying the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask and I can definitely see myself restocking it in the future. I feel on top of my self-care routine when I end the night with it.
At the same time though, it doesn’t fall into my “essentials”. It’s a nice-to-have but I can go without it.
Then again, we can also go without a Lamborghini, but do we want to? I’ll leave it to you to decide.
XOXO
